They sent my Census form back. In response to the question: "Do you have any dependents?" I replied, "12 million illegal immigrants; 3 million crack heads; 42 million unemployable people, 15 million unwed mothers, 2 million people in over 243 prisons; half of Mexico; and 535 more in the U.S. House and Senate. I just received this. I do not know if it is factually correct, however, it is quite a rendition of the day. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I was one of two emergency room doctors who were on duty at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, MO on Sunday, May 22, 2011. You never know that it will be the most important day of your life until the day is over. The day started like any other day for me: waking up, eating, going to the gym, showering, and going to my 4:00 pm ER shift. As I drove to the hospital I mentally prepared for my shift as I always do, but nothing could ever have prepared me for what was going to happen on this shift. Things were normal for the first hour and half. At approximately 5:30 pm we received a warning that a tornado had been spotted. Although I work in Joplin and went to medical school in Oklahoma, I live in New Jersey, and I have never seen or been in a tornado. I learned that a "Code Gray" was being called. We were to start bringing patients to safer spots within the ED and hospital. The mainstream media, Tampa Bay Rays Ownership, Major League Baseball, Dick Vital, Mike Greenberg, Mike Golic and Rays Players have been outraged with the fan base in St Petersburg. They all have valid points when you look only at the number of people purchasing tickets on an average basis. However, I believe (based on the population of the city where the stadium is located) you can make an argument that the top 7 teams supported by their fan base are Detroit, LA Angels, St. Louis, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, Texas, and Cincinnati while the worst supported teams are the Chicago Cubs, Houston, LA Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, Toronto ,NY Yankees, NY Mets. When the New York Yankees or Mets put 46,000 and 32,000 fans in the seats, they bring .55% and .39% of the population of New York City. These figures are not based on the fans in a 50 mile radius but based on the List of United States cities by population From Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population#cnote_d, and the attendance figures from ESPN, http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance/_/sort/homePct. In the inverse when the small market cities (location of stadium population only) of with a rank of population rank of 35 or higher Minneapolis, St Petersburg, Arlington, Pittsburg, Atlanta, Oakland, Miami, Kansas City, and Cleveland all draw on a daily average over 4% of the population.
